Friends of the Lakewood Libraries now accepting scholarship applications
The Friends of the Lakewood Libraries (FOLL) is now accepting applications for educational scholarships. The program is open to both high school seniors and those currently enrolled in post-high school education.
Applicants and/or immediate family members must have volunteered for FOLL, Angelo Iacoboni Library or George M. Nye, Jr. Library. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,500 and are provided to help pay future college or trade school costs.
Applications are available at www.LakewoodLibraryFriends.org and at both libraries.
Students who are strongly motivated to continue their education, have contributed actively to their community or school and excelled academically are encouraged to apply.
If mailed, completed applications must be postmarked by April 5, 2018 and sent to:
Friends of the Lakewood Libraries Scholarship Committee
Angelo Iacoboni Library
4990 Clark Avenue
Lakewood, CA 90712
The final deadline for delivering applications to the Iacoboni Library is 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018.
Awards are not based solely on the highest GPA, but also require active citizenship in the community and at school. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate their desire to continue their education beyond high school. The student’s enrollment at any accredited college, university or trade school will be acceptable to meet this qualification. Letters of recommendation are required to corroborate character and academics. Finally, a 5”x7” head shot photo must be included for publication purposes and will be returned to the applicant.
The funds available in the Friends of the Lakewood Libraries Scholarship Trust determine the number and value of scholarships awarded by FOLL each year. Donations are fully tax deductible and may be mailed or delivered to the Angelo Iacoboni Library.
