The City of Lakewood solemnly commemorated Patriot Day with a flag-lowering ceremony Wednesday evening, Sept. 11 at City Hall.
The 30-minute ceremony, attended by over 200 residents, included the presentation of the colors by the Lakewood High School Naval Jr. ROTC, remarks from Mayor Todd Rogers and two musical performances. Pastor Tim Buzbee led a moment of silence before the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department trumpeters played Taps as our nation’s flag was lowered for the night.
Since first gathering two weeks after the horrific events of Sept. 11, 2001, Lakewood residents have come together annually to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks and pay tribute to the U.S. military personnel and public safety first responders who protect and serve us at home and abroad.
